2019 has been an incredible feat for the medium of film. We’ve seen the edge of an era with Avengers: Endgame. We’ve seen the genre game changers in movies like Joker and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Far from the superhero genre, we’ve seen the brand new feats for streaming services thanks to films like The Irishman and Marriage Story. While we’ve covered a multitude of mediums, here are my picks for this year;s top 10 best films of 2019.

A father and daughter already heavy in tension are trapped in a basement, during a flood with a man-eating alligator. How much anxiety can one film cost? Alexander Aja creates a terrific horror experience from start to finish.

A tear-jerking father and daughter tale set in a post Apocalyptic world that thrives on its heart, simplicity and ever evolving mythology. One of the strongest independent films to come out of this year.

The only international film to grace this film and another selection from Lost Weekend XIII, this film takes the powerful topics of sex addiction and vengeance and molds a grounded, mature film. A mesmerizing performance from Emilie Piponnier will leave an impression as one of this year’s strongest performances.

This was a film that I thought would be enjoyable going into it but not leave me walking out of the theater with my jaw on the ground. One of the funnest movies of the year. One of the best horror movies of the year. Ready crafts a simple mythology and weaves a webs of twists and turns in its wake.

While there are a couple more on this list, Hustlers finds its way on our list because of its majority, honesty and down right amazing performance of Jennifer Lopez. Much like Alice, a subject would could have been handled lighter is handled with grace and beauty.

A refreshing entry into the comic book movie genre that comes equipped with heart and genuine humor. Shazam! boldly takes the genre to new heights and Zachary Levi is without a doubt one of the most lovable gentlemen to graze the screen this year.

This year, Tom Hanks picks up the legendary sweater from the man and the myth of Mister Rogers as he brings this 1998 story to life. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood channeled the relationship between the pure Mister Rogers and a skeptic report who gets a bit more than he bargained for.

Thanks in part to its hauntingly powerful performances from Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. Bombshell is arguably the most important film of this year. Powerful, riveting and engrossing.

This was the film that not only turned me into an Elton John fan but just stayed with me weeks after my first viewing. Powerfully emotional, joyful and disturbing - Rocketman is bold, catchy and a glorious feat for the biopic genre.

Crafted a haunting score from Hildur Guonadottir, deep cinematography and an intensely heartbreaking journey from Joaquin Phoenix. There are not enough words to describe how important Joker is and how powerful it will grow to be.
