Three Identical Strangers (& Isn't It, Romantic?)
IN THIS EPISODE…
Welcome to another adventure in the multiverse! If you guys have ever been to one of our local events, chances are you may have picked up a card from a local counseling service, Resolute Counseling. We’re so thrilled to welcome the man behind the service, Mr. Michael Linn, to the show. We’re not alone, though, we’re welcoming back our friends, Brandon & Jordan Golonka of The Secret Spice of Life. We’re talking about the 2018 documentary, Three Identical Strangers. The film tells the story of Robert Shafran, Eddy Galland & David Kellman - triplets separated at birth but reunited after 19 years. Their story is filled with wonder, mystery and tragedy.
LIFE AS TWINS & IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY
There are some things that we at Victims and Villains can’t speak to or relate to. Being a twin is definitely one of them. While this film is heavily rooted in themes of mental health, we’re joined by a counselor for such things. The subjects of this film are triplets, which neither one of us are. The hosts of The Secret Spice of Life, on the other hand are twins. We’re discussing and answering the question - what’s life like as a twin? Even when we don’t have a doppelganger, the need for community is essential.
A TOUCH OF ROMANCE?
Last week in episode 179, (Doom Patrol (& Serenity)), we introduced a brand new segment called “Movie Moments”. This week, we’re taking a moment to talk about the film, Isn’t It, Romantic? This past week saw us pass the torch on another Valentine’s Day and why not talk about a romantic comedy. Even if that rom-com in question, is making fun of the genre. Check out our full review here.
Isn't It, Romantic?, is just okay. Its fueled by hilarious performances from its' leads of Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine. Their chemistry is electrifying and Wilson has an arc that really speaks to women of modern day. Even these two aren't enough to save though. Romantic has embraced every trope in the rom-com genre, except the kitchen sink. The novelty of its spoof nature quickly wears off quickly. Romantic it might be in the world of this movie but not always to the viewer.
